1894-O Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-2. MS-61 * (NGC). Reflective fields provide a pronounced semi-prooflike finish for this coin and undoubtedly explain the coveted * designation from NGC for superior eye appeal. Vivid honey-rose patina throughout with a bold to sharp strike from the dies. Our multiple offerings in this sale notwithstanding, the 1894-O is a surprisingly elusive half eagle in Mint State given its position near the end of the Liberty Head series. The Winter-2 variety is by far the scarcer of the two die pairings listed in Doug Winter's 2020 reference on New Orleans Mint gold coinage. PCGS# 8388. NGC ID: 25YF.
