Lot Description
A lovely, borderline GEM example of this VERY RARE Restrike pattern cent. Representing the first of many efforts to reduce the size of the large cent, these "perforated" cent patterns are VERY POPULAR. The simple design shows CENT and 1850 around a central circle flanked by two eight pointed rosettes on the obverse and U.S.A. ONE TENTH SILVER on the reverse. Struck in billon (an alloy of 90% copper and 10% silver) with a plain edge. Listed as a high Rarity-7+, there are only three graded at PCGS, this one tied for finest. Deep silver gray patina melds with golden and soft rose hues. The reverse was shattered when this piece was struck. An incredibly charming little example, this coin has a lot to offer the pattern specialist. Housed in an old green tag holder. PCGS 2, NGC 0, CAC 1. This coin has sold twice in the last six years, most recently for $5,040, before being CAC approved. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $6,500. NONE ARE FINER, this is an important opportunity. Do not let this RARE pattern get away. Cert. Number 9105453 PCGS # 11514.00
