- Die State 108.4. Significant quality for this die pairing, and a handsome near-Gem Uncirculated early date Capped Bust half dollar. The borders show signs of die fatigue, especially on the reverse, with incomplete denticulation and some of the design elements drawn toward or softly defined where they approach the coin's edge. The centers are much sharper, and luster is full with a billowy satin texture. The entire package is dressed in rich toning that blends steely-charcoal and antique silver gray with more vivid blue and pinkish-apricot iridescence. The only NGC MS-64 for this variety listed in the Spring 2025 revision to Stephen J. Herrman's AMBPR for Bust half dollars is a coin offered in Alpine Numismatics' Fixed Price List of March 2001. Based on the roster in that reference, the present example is tied for CC#3 for the 1819 O-108 dies.
