Lot Description
1722 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 4.2-Bd.1, W-12755. Rarity-5. First Type, Harp at Left. AU-58 (NGC). Deep golden-tan and chestnut surfaces offer traces of orange in the deeply recessed areas. no heavy contact marks are noted though some central reverse ticks, as struck, gather at Hibernia's center. Obverse die crack in George's hair, reverse die crack from N through IA then to a place at the rim above the 1, another bolder crack from rim above 7 in date across 22 and then to the base of Hibernia's platform -- our guess is these two cracks join in an even later die state than presented here. A scarce coin in an equally elusive grade. PCGS# 167. Provenance: Paper envelope with attribution and rarity notes included.
