Lot Description
1895 Morgan Silver Dollar. Proof-63 (NGC). Reflective fields are framed by multi-hued iridescent toning, likely from storage in an old album. A narrow scratch is seen on the cheek, and explains the numeric grade assigned by NGC. One of the last dates added to people's Morgan dollar sets, the inclusion of an example is a mark of a fine collection. By far the lowest mintage date of the entire Morgan dollar series, as it is a proof-only date, with 880 struck for collectors. While the mint records show 12,000 business strikes were made, none have ever been discovered, and all worn examples are just proofs that ended up in circulation. If you are looking to fill that glaring hole in your Morgan dollar collection, be sure to review this example and it can be yours when it crosses the auction block.
