- Description du lot
- 1970-S Lincoln Cent. Large Date. FS-101 (FS-029). Doubled Die Obverse. MS-64 RB (PCGS). Satiny and predominantly lustrous on the obverse, the reverse is veiled in equally attractive lavender-brown iridescence. For the obverse we note dominant medium-orange color. A few wispy abrasions hardly distract at the near-Gem grade level, and there is no worrisome carbon. Writing of this important variety in the 2009 edition of the reference Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties of United States Coins, Bill Fivaz and J. T. Stanton state:

This very strong doubled die is extremely rare. To this point, fewer examples are known for the previous listing, the 1969-S [which, we might add, is a solid five-figure coin even in lower Mint State grades--Bowers cataloger].
