Lot Description: Splendid Gem Deep Cameo Proof 1899 Quarter Eagle 1899 Liberty Quarter Eagle. Proof-66 Deep Cameo (PCGS). CAC. An impressive Gem Proof of the date with fiery deep orange surfaces that exhibit heavily frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields in deep contrast to each other. A lovely specimen with intense visual impact that is not softened by magnified examination. From a Proof mintage for the date of 150 pieces, though we imagine some few have been lost through the years. The present coin is among the finest DCAM Proofs of the date seen by PCGS -- or by us for that matter -- and we suspect that, once sold to its new steward, it may not see the light of day for quite some time.
