- 1834 Capped Bust Half Dime. LM-1. Rarity-2. 3/Inverted 3. MS-63 (PCGS).
Pleasing collector quality as this piece boasts many desirable features. The fields are lustrous and are graced by delicate gold to russet toning, deeper near the rims. Sharply struck too, and featuring an early retained cud above ED of UNITED where a fragment of the die is beginning to split off. This obverse die has another unusual feature, that is the 3 was first punched into the die inverted, then corrected. All these features add collector interest to a coin that is already at the Choice grade level, with the important pedigree just a bit more icing on the cake.
PCGS# 94281.
Provenance: From our (Bowers and Merena's) Stuart C. Levine, M.D. Collection sale, April 1986, lot 2016. Lot tag included.
