1890 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Proof-66 Cameo (NGC). The central devices of this attractive Gem half dollar exhibit a bold amount of mint brilliance which yields rapidly to deep champagne-gold and peach iridescence throughout the rest of the coin. The strike is sharp -- not always the case in Proofs of the era -- and the eye appeal is substantial. One of just 590 Proofs of this late date struck, a modest output given the numbers for the surrounding dates; indeed, only a half dozen dates in the series after 1858 have a lower Proof mintage than the present Gem. Choice and appealing.
