Lot Description
THE SAN DIEGO COLLECTION An outstanding example just on the cusp of a FULL GEM grade. Spectacular old time collection toning on both sides of this beauty suggest long term storage in old album. The eye appeal is simply stupendous! Rich cobalt and violet-tinged blue tones surround the apricot-rose gold patina of the central portions of the design. A vibrant satiny luster glows boldly highlighting the gorgeous patina. The devices show crisp definition throughout, highlighted by the bold swirling brilliance. There is a tiny tick or two that is found with aid of a strong glass, but the eye appeal is superb and has the initial look of a GEM! We have no doubt that this coin was called a GEM in the past. Ex Heritage, January 2017, lot 5652. PCGS 23, NGC 9, CAC 6. PCGS shows 12 listed in MS64+ on the Population Report, a figure that seems inflated with resubmissions, especially since our database shows only one having sold in auction (not this coin). This coin's auction appearance had it graded MS64 and it brought $12,925 nearly six years ago. The current PCGS Price Guide value for a 64+ is $20,000 and it jumps to $30,000 in MS65. This beautiful coin will bring very strong bidding when it crosses the block. Good luck. IMAGES Cert. Number 46263201 PCGS # 39556
