- Handsome surfaces are predominantly steel-brown in appearance, although appreciable golden-brown color is also present on the obverse. Both sides have evidence of die fatigue at the borders, the obverse with little denticulation present. The centers are bolder, but still with areas of softness. Hard and frosty in texture, the surfaces have some scattered marks and faint carbon spots, but none are sizeable enough to assail the eye during in hand viewing. Indeed, this is a premium middle date large cent at the Select Mint State grade level, and it would do equally well in a type set or more specialized collection.
