Lot Description
1798 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. Small Eagle. BB-81, B-2. Rarity-3. 15 Stars on Obverse. VF-30 (NGC). This is a handsome mid grade early dollar, both sides boldly toned in steely charcoal gray. Nicely centered in strike, if devoid of denticulation along the lower reverse border, both sides retain plenty of bold detail to the major design elements. A well concealed scrape along the inside of Liberty's hair curls is noted for accuracy, although the in hand appearance is generally smooth for the assigned grade. BB-81 is a scarce die marriage by Draped Bust dollar standards with perhaps no more than 800 coins extant in all grades. The Small Eagle design as a whole is scarce, as well, confirming the significance of this offering for both type and variety purposes. BB Die State II. PCGS# 6868. NGC ID: 24X5.
