Lot Description: 1813 Classic Head Cent. S-292. Rarity-2. AU-55 BN (NGC). Flashes of sapphire-blue toning in the fields accents the violet and plum patina. Slightly drawn to 5 o'clock on the obverse but nicely centered on the reverse. Considerably lustrous with just an area of roughness above star 7 to be noted. Just two distinct die pairs were used to produce all 418,000 1813 Classic Head cents, guaranteeing a wide sampling of striking and die characteristics across both varieties. Sheldon-292, represented here, is most readily identifiable by wide spacing between star 13 and the digit 3 on the obverse and the positioning of the highest leaf in the reverse wreath under the right side of the final letter S in STATES. According to Walter Breen's Encyclopedia on the series, only three Mint State 1813 S-292 cents are known based on EAC grading standards. NGC Census: 18; 41 finer. PCGS# 1570. NGC ID: 224X.
