Lot Description
1887/6 Morgan Silver Dollar. VAM-2. Top 100 Variety. MS-65+ (PCGS). CAC. Modestly semi-reflective, this is an exceptionally well preserved and attractive example of a popular Morgan dollar VAM variety. Both sides are sharply struck with blushes of iridescent toning around the peripheries. Bold remnants of the 6 underdigit before and after the primary digit 7 in the date are best observed with the aid of a loupe. One of just a few overdates in the Morgan dollar series, all of which occurred in two years: 1880 and 1887. All four of the active mints produced overdates in the former year, while in 1887 the overdates were limited to Philadelphia and New Orleans. This premium quality Gem is among the finer certified and represents a significant opportunity for specialists who strive for both completeness and superior technical quality in their Morgan dollar cabinet. Well worth a premium bid. Provenance: From the Bimyway Collection. PCGS Population: 18; 21 finer in this category (MS-66+ finest). PCGS# 7174. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
