1829 Capped Bust Dime. JR-3. Rarity-4. Small 10C. AU-58 (NGC). A double denticle below the digit 1 in the date quickly identifies this obverse die, which is known in only a single marriage for the 1829 Capped Bust dime. This piece is typically sharp in strike for the variety with little to report in the way of even trivial highpoint wear. Lightly toned, and then again mostly around the peripheries, more direct angles reveal colors of blue-gray, rose-russet and champagne-apricot. Of this die marriage, the John Reich Collectors Society (1984) states: "A very scarce variety that is difficult to locate above VF-30 condition."
