- Lot Description
- A lovely, near-GEM quality example of this two year only type. Displaying a totally original blend of light golden tan and silver-tan patina on both sides, this 1855 half dollar has bold visual appeal aided by sharply impressed design elements and a swirling luster. We do note a few tiny, ancient marks that are nearly invisible to the unaided eye. PCGS 12, NGC 15, CAC 4. The only CAC-approved coin to sell in auction brought $4,700 in the 2017 ANA auction. Any coin graded higher is a five figure coin, with a PCGS/CAC MS65 selling for $16,450 in December 2013. A great type coin, or representative of the date for a very carefully assembled collection. Worthy of a very strong bid as these are really seldom seen. Cert. Number 33290557 PCGS # 6281
