Lot Description
1859 Pattern Half Dollar. Judd-242, Pollock-298. Rarity-5. Copper. Reeded Edge. Proof-64 RB (PCGS). CAC. OGH. Obv:Longacre's "French Liberty Head" design, which shows Liberty wearing a crown of leaves and acorns. A ribbon draped around her neck is inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Rev:A wreath of corn, cotton, tobacco, sugar cane, wheat, and oak leaves surrounds the denomination 50 CENTS. A pretty piece, mottled lilac-gray and light brown patina is splashed over original pale rose color. Sharply defined with only a few fain carbon flecks precluding an even higher numeric grade. Judd-242 is a scarce pattern type with approximately 30 or so specimens believed extant (per the website uspatterns.com). PCGS Population: 6; 2 finer in this category (both Proof-65 RB). PCGS# 11981. NGC ID: 26G7. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
