Lot Description

A crusty and original piece with blended golden-brown and deeper crimson-copper colors, the latter associated with light surface scale that is most extensive on the obverse, over the high points of the horse's head and in the right field. A few shallow flan flaws drift through the left-central obverse and the lower reverse, obverse with a tiny edge nick just before 9 o'clock. The planchet is slightly out of round, lower obverse border into the date digits, upper reverse border into the letters URIBUS UN, peripheries in general soft with evidence of die fatigue. The centers are bolder, generally well defined for the grade, and the overall design is appreciable, if blurry in a few areas at the borders.
