- 1836 Gobrecht Silver Dollar. Name on Base. Judd-60, Pollock-65. Rarity-1. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I. Proof-20 (NGC).
This pleasing example is evenly toned a slate-gray color over surfaces that retain ample boldness of detail to all devices. We also note sharper definition to the recesses of Liberty's gown, the obverse shield, and some of the eagle's plumage on the reverse. Desirable mid-grade quality for this historic and scarce issue, the first silver dollar that the Mint issued for circulation since the earliest years of the 19th century, and the first in the brief and challenging Gobrecht series of 1836 to 1839.
PCGS# 11225. NGC ID: BLWV.
