- Breen Die State VI. One of the most highly regarded and eagerly sought survivors from these dies, this frosty olive-brown example reveals subtle iridescent undertones of powder blue as it rotates under good lighting. There is also some nice gloss to surfaces that are smooth in most areas. The exceptions are a few small marks in the left obverse field, a more significant, yet shallow scrape in the right obverse field before Liberty's chin, and a minor flan flaw (as made) on the rim outside the letter B in LIBERTY. Well defined overall with plenty of bold to sharp detail. Ted for CC#1 in the Noyes census with an EAC grade of VF35, net VF30, while Del Bland assigns an EAC grade of VF25 and ranks it CC#3. Plated in Dr. Sheldon's popular Penny Whimsy, a nice numismatic provenance rounds out an impressive list of attributes for this famous S-163 cent.
