- This is an uncommon example of both the type and the issue, and for two significant reasons. First, the surfaces are exceptionally smooth and well preserved in a Peace dollar, high grade Mint State survivors of which are rarer as a type than those of their Morgan predecessors. Second, the delicate sandy-silver iridescence that blankets both sides delivers uncommon character in a type that is often encountered brilliant. Boldly struck, highly lustrous and a delight to behold.<p>The 1935 is the final Peace dollar delivery from the Philadelphia Mint, the mintage 1,576,000 pieces. Examples entered the numismatic market over a long period of time and, given that the issue was largely overlooked for several decades after production, it should come as no surprise to read that few were preserved with enough care to qualify for a Superb Gem rating by today's strict grading standards. This is just such a coin, and it would do justice to the finest Peace dollar set.
