- Warm autumn-brown patina with hints of rose and powder blue colors, this is a handsome near-Gem from the early Braided Hair cent series. The strike detail is sharp throughout, and the frosty surfaces have a pleasingly smooth appearance overall. With only two dozen Mint State examples known to Bob Grellman when he published the 2021 edition of his attribution guide to late date large cents, the 1842 Newcomb-6 is decidedly scarce at this level of preservation.
