Description du lot
THE LARRY SHAPIRO 3CS COLLECTION A magnificent borderline SUPERB CAMEO GEM that is among the absolute FINEST known examples of this late date three cent silver. This coin is POP 1 with two finer in the designation (both PR67 CAM). It is truly hard to imagine a better specimen than the one offered here. Clearly Larry Shapiro did all the hard work for you in locating this SPECTACULAR example. Deep beaming mirrors have a smooth, flashy, watery texture in the fields. The surfaces are icy smooth and ultra clean--the definition of PQ! Sharply struck devices are thickly frosted and have a rich, creamy white patina. There is a blush of golden amber color that clings to the lower obverse periphery, otherwise this AMAZING coin is virtually untoned. A strong glass fails to reveal a single mark worthy of singling out, though we note some mint made lint marks and die polish lines with the aid of a strong glass. The eye appeal is simply stunning! PCGS 12, NGC 3, CAC 10. Only 950 Proofs were struck. This is the ONLY PR66+ CAM graded at either service and only two PR67 CAMs have graded finer. There is a huge spread between PR66 and PR67 in auction prices and the price guide values. The last PCGS PR67 CAM sold in 2015, realizing $9,400 in our February 2015 auction. We think this coin will bring very close to that amount when the hammer falls, as its quality is so much closer to PR67 CAM than PR66 CAM. Good luck. Cert. Number 39733782 PCGS # 83723.00
