Lot Description
A scarce issue in all Mint State grades, the 1835 is rarer at this level that the lower mintage 1834 and was obviously not saved to the same extent as its first year counterpart. The HM-2 is the second variety produced for the 1835, all examples of which are believed to have been struck in that year. With 475 coins believed extant in all grades (per Daryl J. Haynor, 2020), or 87% of extant 1835 quarter eagles, this is the most readily obtainable die pairing of the issue. Uncommonly well preserved for the date, as above, this glittering BU example exhibits vivid olive-orange color to bright, frosty to semi-reflective surfaces. Well struck apart from a touch of softness to the central obverse high point, there are faint hairlines to account for the grade, but no sizeable marks. A pretty piece that would do nicely in an advanced gold type set.
