Lot Description

The earliest group of 1796 Draped Bust cent varieties was delivered from October 13 through December 23, 1796, the mintage 363,375 or more pieces. The Sheldon-110 die pairing represented here was included in that group, and it is readily attributable by repunching to the letters LI in LIBERTY and a prominent reverse die chip below the letter E in UNITED. This is a lovely VF example, the surfaces hard, tight, and generally medium brown in appearance, but with warmer autumn-orange in the protected areas representing where original minor was last to fade.
