Tompkins Die Stage 2/4, Rea et al. Die State c. Golden-tinged surfaces are lightly toned over bright, frosty, appreciably lustrous surfaces. Quarter dollars of this design type are seldom well struck, but here we note an expertly centered impression and universally bold to sharp definition on both sides. Wispy hairlines are noted for accuracy, but there are few circulation marks, and none that come readily to the fore during in hand viewing. The 1806 Browning-2 represents the first of two uses of this obverse die, and the only use of this reverse die. It is one of the most readily obtainable die marriages of this issue, the present example in PCGS AU-53 particularly desirable for certified high grade type purposes.
