Lot Description
Condition Census 1925-S Peace Dollar Rarity Just One Finer at NGC 1925-S Peace Silver Dollar. MS-65+ (NGC). The 1925-S is a leading condition rarity in the Peace dollar series that is extremely difficult to locate in grades above MS-64. This NGC-certified Gem features above average striking detail, the centers with emerging definition that gives way to sharp to full detail toward the borders. Both sides are highly lustrous with swirling cartwheel visual effects. Brilliant and beautiful with a remarkably mark-free appearance for this extraordinarily challenging issue. The 1925-S is a very rare issue in Gem condition and is on par with the 1928-S, and remains rarer than the 1924-S, 1927-D, 1927-S, and 1934-S by slight margins. Notably, the 1925-S has been awarded the highest valuation of any MS-65 Peace dollar issue listed in current editions of the Guide Book. While 1.6 million examples were struck, most were poorly made with soft central detail and granular luster. Many of those that were held back in Treasury vaults were subject to mishandling and improper storage, transforming even above average Uncirculated coins into unattractive and undesirable survivors. The present MS-65+ is a true miracle of production and survival, and represents an important prize for specialists of this series. NGC Census: 4; 1 finer (MS-66). The corresponding PCGS Population is 1/0. PCGS# 7366. NGC ID: 257M. Click here for certification details from NGC. Click here to see Coins in Motion.[“Coins]
