Lot Description

Otherwise pearl-gray surfaces exhibit enhancing blushes of vivid olive-gold and orange-russet iridescence that are more extensive on the obverse. Smooth and satiny in texture with a bold to sharp strike. From the first year of issue for this commemorative design type, with a mintage of just 13,012 pieces. Twelve of those coins were reserved for assay purposes, and of those that were distributed to contemporary collectors precious few have been preserved with enough care to approach Ultra Gem quality, as here.
