Lot Description
FROM THE SEATTLE COLLECTION A GEM example of this R-5 transitional Pattern nickel, pairing an 1866 dated obverse die and the No Rays reverse adopted in 1867. Offering a bold, CAMEO contrast on both sides, the fields show an exceptionally flashy brilliance and seriously deep, clear reflection. The sharply struck up design elements have a great frosty texture that contrasts nicely. There are no serious marks or flecks can be found anywhere, just some minor specks can be seen with the aid of a strong glass, attesting to the originality of this GEM. The eye appeal is very high end! This coin is incorrectly numbered as PCGS # 60703; the # for CAMEO is 860703. PCGS 6, NGC 2, CAC 5. (For PCGS # 860703). This coin brought $4,113 in September 2014, and a decade earlier, it realized $4,370. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $5,500. What a special coin worthy of any advanced Shield nickel or Pattern collection. Cert. Number 21489769 PCGS # 60703.00
