- 1870 Pattern Quarter. Judd-888, Pollock-987. Rarity-5. Proof-63 (PCGS). 1870 Pattern Dime. Judd-870, Pollock-966. Rarity-7+. Proof-64 BN (PCGS). Standard Silver design with a bust of Liberty facing right on the obverse. Liberty is wearing a soft cap ornamented with three stars, and a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY crosses her shoulder. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed on a scroll below. On the reverse, a wreath of corn and cotton encircles the denomination 25 CENTS and the date 1870, with the word STANDARD inscribed along the upper border. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.<br /> Beautiful silver-apricot iridescence is a bit more vivid on the obverse. Free of significant blemishes, and rather vibrant for the grade, although slight muting of the surfaces does preclude a near-Gem rating. Examples of this type were struck on both thin and thick planchets, although we do not know the weight of the present specimen.
