- A very scarce date in Mint State, the 1914-S is particularly rare in MS-63 or higher grades, as much of the original mintage of only 263,000 went into circulation or were melted in the 1930s. David Akers noted that a "mini-hoard" made some lower end Mint State coins available, but his statement that a "strictly graded MS-63" is "very rare" and is borne out in the census and population data from the 3rd party grading services.

Well struck, as is seen for this date, most every detail is well rendered and crisp. A frosted luster highlights a medium golden color with warm honey hues in the recesses. There is some minor contact, nothing worth individual notation, and truly on the cusp of a Choice Mint State grade. This is a date that becomes prohibitive for many collectors any finer, and with its bold visual allure, this one is certainly going to garner strong bidding competition.
