Lot Description
1858 Pattern Indian Cent. Judd-213, Pollock-252. Rarity-5. Proof-62 (NGC). An interesting transitional pattern, this piece combines with obverse design of the regular issue Indian Cent with the reverse of the regular issue Flying Eagle Cent. The obverse exhibits the Pointed Bust hub type used to strike regular issue Indian Cent in 1859 and early 1860. On the reverse, the point of the leaf closest to the letter C in CENT is even with the base of that letter. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge.<br />     Both sides are fully struck with tannish-apricot patina. The surfaces are a tad subdued, and a few carbon spots on the obverse also explain the Proof-62 designation.
