Our multiple offerings for Superb Gems in this sale notwithstanding, this key date Type I Buffalo nickel issue is rare at this exceptional level of preservation. The present example combines an essentially brilliant ice-white obverse with a reverse dressed in pretty lemon-gold iridescence. Both sides are fully struck, intensely lustrous and expertly preserved to allow ready appreciation of the rustic texture (as made) for which this Type I design is known.
