- The First Through Last Collection. A collector favorite in any venue, the 1916 Standing Liberty bridges the dramatic change in aesthetics between the staid Barber designs and MacNeil's artistically-inspired design. Desirable issue in any grade due to limited production of 52,000 pieces, the spread between values is surprisingly limited in sub-gem grades, whether full-head or not. That means an MS-64 FH specimen looks like a resounding bargain as compared to, say, an MS-61 with no designation.
Intriguing matte texture completely dominates this piece, as the entire surface shows granularity accented by a curious layer of patina that is at-once brilliantish yet subdued. Liberty's all-important facial details stand out boldly and the inner rim has been stuck to astonishing sharpness.
