Lot Description
FROM THE PERFECTION COLLECTION OF CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLARS Arguably this borderline SUPERB GEM is the SECOND FINEST KNOWN O-108. While the Condition Census is listed at 68,67,67,66,66, this coin in earlier appearances dating back to 1998 was graded MS67 by NGC. This is a truly beautiful 1833 half dollar. A sensational cartwheel luster rolls boldly unimpeded on both sides, highlighting the blend of electric blue, golden-brown, apricot-rose, and iridescent hues. Every detail is crisply and precisely rendered by an exacting blow from the dies. The surfaces are totally original and devoid of any flaws. This is a marvelous GEM of the highest order! Ex Leonard J. Torok, M.D. Collection, Bowers & Merena, September 1998, lot 2113; Kaufman Collection; Joseph C. Thomas Collection, Heritage, April 2009, lot 2447 (as NGC MS67). PCGS 2, NGC 3, CAC 1. This is the ONLY MS66+ 1833 of any die marriage graded, and for the date there are just three finer at PCGS. This coin last sold over 13 years ago. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $37,500. With no recent PCGS comps, we feel this SUPERB GEM will bring a very strong bid from the advanced collector. Good luck. Cert.
