Lot Description

1859-D Liberty Half Eagle. Medium D. AU-50 (PCGS). Satiny yellow-gold with the expected green blush from the Dahlonega Mint. Beveled rims too, an interesting characteristic found scattered among various American coinage issues (the 1928 Peace silver dollar being another example). Clean surfaces and scarce, with a mintage of 10,366 pieces, most lost in ensuing conflict that swept the eastern half of the nation in the following years.
