Lot Description
1905 Liberty Head Eagle. JD-1, the only known dies. Rarity-5. Proof-61 (PCGS). Sparking and bright with no signs of toning or copper specks. The frost on Liberty's face and neck as well as that on the eagle are undisturbed, however, this coin failed to receive the Cameo designation at PCGS. The fragile mirrored fields show evidence of tiny scratches and hairlines gained from mishandling. Identifiable by a small violet toning spot above Liberty's eye at her hairline. Proof mintage for the year came to 86 pieces in all. Collectible quality for this late Coronet Proof eagle issue and a rare coin indeed. PCGS Population: 2; 14 finer within the designation (Proof-65 finest). PCGS# 8845. NGC ID: 28GC. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
