- 1869 Pattern Five-Cent Piece. Judd-684, Pollock-763. Rarity-5. Proof-65 (NGC). On the obverse we see a left-facing bust of Liberty with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border and the date 1869 below. Liberty is wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and adorned with a single star. The reverse exhibits the Roman numeral V surrounded by a laurel wreath and surmounted by a scroll inscribed IN GOD WE TRUST. A small Maltese cross is above the scroll. Struck in nickel with a plain edge.<br /> Slightly mottled, golden-apricot iridescence dances across both sides of this boldly impressed Gem. More direct angles also reveal shimmering semi-reflective tendencies in the fields, especially on the obverse.
