Lot Description

Tompkins Die Stage 2/2. A pretty and desirable AU example of this popular type variety from the final year of Draped Bust half dollar coinage. Generally silver gray surfaces exhibit warmer steel-olive outlines to many of the peripheral features. When viewed with the aid of direct lighting, however, the surfaces brighten up with iridescent champagne-pink and powder blue undertoning. A shallow, faint planchet drift mark in the upper left obverse field is as made; there are no troublesome handling marks visible during in hand viewing. Well centered and well executed in strike with most features sharp to full, and none less than bold.
