Lot Description

151.6 grains. A beautiful and very sharp example of this popular die variety, with light steely tan surfaces exhibiting just a trace of mahogany toning in the peripheries and a few very minor green deposits, mostly at the branch. Evenly and pretty sharply struck, except for the common weakness at the lower central reverse. Almost ideal centering. Only a couple of coins of similar quality to this are in our online archives. A half-century provenance, and likely in the August Collection since the last public sale in 1973.
