1906 Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-63+ (PCGS). CAC. Handsome deep gold patina blanket both sides of this smartly impressed, fully frosted example. Only 69,596 circulation strike double eagles were coined during the year at the Philadelphia Mint, equal to a face value of $1,391,920. Uncirculated examples are scarce by the standards of the type, Q. David Bowers in 2004 providing an estimate of just 1,000 to 1,500 pieces.
