Lot Description
1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar. BB-26, B-12. Rarity-5. BB Die State III. Three Leaves. VF-35 (PCGS). Handsome olive-gray surfaces also reveal swirls of intermingled steel gray on the reverse. A well balanced Choice VF with uncommonly bold definition for this advanced die state of the 1795 BB-26 die variety, this coin is sure to appeal to the specialized early dollar collector. At the VF-35 grade level this specimen is tied with one other as the sixth finest reported in Q. David Bowers reference work The Encyclopedia Of United States Silver Dollars 1794 - 1804 of this die pairing and an important collector coin as such. Furthermore the Flowing Hair type is always in strong collector demand just for the style and design, as these were only issued in late 1794 and part of 1795. The obverse die developed a sharp die crack through the 7 into Liberty's neck, and this crack soon caused the obverse die to be replaced -- limiting production. Highly desirable and a scarce die pairing at this level of preservation. PCGS# 39976.
