- THE SAN DIEGO COLLECTION Probably the FINEST KNOWN O-103, this is a gorgeous MS65+ that is very high end for the assigned grade. The Overton-Parsley Census is listed at 65,65,65,65,64 and the finest listed in the AMBPR is the NGC MS65 CAC Newman coin. Despite a large mintage, and status as a "common" date, the 1835 in general is VERY RARE in GEM or finer grades; PCGS and NGC combined have certified fewer than 30 total in MS65 and up, across 11 die marriages. A bold, sweeping cartwheel brilliance rolls vividly across the wonderfully lustrous surfaces. Both sides have frames of warm iridescent toning that surrounds the untoned silver centers. Both sides show nice, crisp definition from a sharp strike and the surfaces are quite clean and free of all but the most insignificant tick or line, nothing that distracts from the bold visual allure. It is baffling to us why CAC did not approve this GEM. PCGS 7, NGC 1. PCGS has graded just two finer. We sold a CAC-approved O-109 in September 2021 for $18,213 and prior to that, the Pogue coin, a non-CAC MS65+ O-108 sold for $15,275 back in February 2016. There are two finer at PCGS, an MS66 that sold in August 2020 and the Eliasberg-Kaufman coin which is MS67+. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $23,000. This is a great example for anyone working on a top tier date or Red Book set. Good luck. Cert. Number 46263217 PCGS # 39929
