Lot Description
Lovely AU Large Planchet Pine Tree Shilling Noe-10 1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Large Planchet. Noe-10, Salmon 8-Diii, W-750. Rarity-3. Without Pellets at Trunk, N Reversed. AU-50 (NGC). 70.7 grains. A handsome and fully original piece, both sides are warmly toned in a blend of mauve, olive and blue-gray. The strike is trivially off center to 9 o'clock on the obverse, 3 o'clock on the reverse, but while the outer beads are flush with the borders in those areas, all are at least partially discernible. Slight waviness in the planchet is as made, a few of the letters on both sides indistinct, although the detail is predominantly bold and well above average for the type. A shallow planchet crack at 10 o'clock relative to the obverse is also as made, the flan with several trivial clips around the border that provide an irregular shape. There are no marks of consequence, direct lighting calling forth appreciable remnants of a satiny finish. With rustic charm that specialists in Massachusetts Bay Colony silver find so appealing, this conditionally scarce Noe-10 will certainly find many willing buyers among advanced collectors. PCGS# 45372. NGC ID: 2ARX. Click here for certification details from NGC.
