Lot Description
1865 Pattern Indian Cent. Judd-406, Pollock-475. Rarity-6-. Nickel. Plain Edge. Proof-64 (PCGS). Eagle Eye Photo Seal. Secure Holder. Obv: from the die of the circulating Indian cents of the date. Rev: same comment as obverse. Lustrous steel-gray with a decided olive glow. The strike is crisp throughout, and other than some tiny flecks that become apparent under low magnification, surface marks are at an absolute minimum. The uspatterns.com website notes that: "These are so-called regular dies trial pieces but most of these off-metal coins were deliberately struck for sale to collectors, often as part of complete sets." An attractive scarce and desirable pattern, especially among Indian cent aficionados.
