Lot Description
1863 Pattern Two-Cent Piece. Judd-312, Pollock-377. Rarity-4. Bronze. Plain Edge. Proof-62 BN (NGC). Obv:Similar to the design that the Mint adopted for regular issue two-cent coinage in 1864, although the motto on the scroll reads GOD OUR TRUST instead of IN GOD WE TRUST. Rev:Also similar to the adopted type of the following year, but the word CENTS is markedly curved and the detail to the wreath is slightly different. A second example of this popular pattern type, both sides are smartly impressed with direct viewing angles calling forth pale pink undertones as well as modest semi-reflective tendencies in the fields. Otherwise warmly patinated in rose-brown with a generally smooth appearance in hand. Provenance: From the Marc Kravit Collection. PCGS# 60467. NGC ID: 29ER.
