Lot Description: A very attractive GEM 17-D Type 2. Brilliant and satiny mint luster radiates and glows from the smooth surfaces on both sides. The peripheries on both sides of this lovely coin are framed by a cobalt and amber-gold blend that really enhances the sharply rendered devices. The surfaces are smooth and free of any distracting marks of any kind. The eye appeal is excellent, we are not sure why CAC didn't bean this beauty. PCGS 25, NGC 3. It has been over two years since the last two PCGS examples sold in auction, where they brought over $3,800 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $5,000. Only seven coins have graded finer at PCGS and they are very rarely seen in the marketplace, making this a rare opportunity for the serious Standing Liberty collector.
