Satiny in texture and sharply struck from the dies, this handsome example also possesses attractively original color in vivid golden-apricot. There are no sizeable or otherwise significant handling marks, the surfaces presenting as pristine during in-hand viewing. Desirable in all regards, and sure to sell for a strong premium.<p>The 1912 is one of the more common Indian eagles in terms of total number of Mint State coins extant. The mintage is respectable for the type at 405,000 circulation strikes, and repatriations from foreign bank hoards - especially beginning in the 1970s - have swelled the population to 10,000 or more coins. Despite this total, however, the 1912 is still a scarce to rare find in grades above MS-65. Premium Gems in MS-65+ and higher grades are rarer than those of the 1908 Motto, 1910, 1911 and 1913 issues, to say nothing of the 1907 No Periods, 1926 and 1933.
