1882 Hawaii Plantation Token. Haiku Plantation. One Rial. Medcalf-Russell TE-15. Reeded Edge. AU-55 BN (NGC). Richly original surfaces are awash in crimson-copper patina. Satiny in texture with sharply defined features, it is difficult for us to imagine a more inviting example of this type at the Choice AU grade level. All Hawaiian plantation tokens are scarce to rare, and many were denominated as a "rial" or 12 1/2 cents. This Haiku Plantation piece is among the most desirable of all, especially in such a fine state of preservation. Provenance: From the Marc Kravit Collection. PCGS# 600518.
