Lot Description
Obv: Similar to that of the regular issue Liberty Head nickel introduced in 1883, except the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border in place of 13 stars and the date, of course, is 1881. Rev: A Roman numeral V for the denomination is set within a wreath of corn, wheat, and cotton. A dusting of pretty champagne-gold iridescence on both sides is boldest at the obverse periphery. Accuracy compels us to mention a couple of faint, shallow grazes on Liberty's neck that preclude a full Gem Proof grade, but the surfaces are well preserved otherwise with strong eye appeal.
